Program Overview

The Poultry Farm Apprenticeship is a practical certificate program developed by ONITA to prepare learners for employment or self-employment in poultry operations. Learners receive hands-on experience in broiler, layer, feed, housing, biosecurity, disease control, record keeping, and farm operations.

Program Objectives

1. Develop practical poultry farming skills.
2. Build confidence in farm operations and daily management.
3. Train learners for poultry employment opportunities.
4. Prepare apprentices for farm leadership roles.
5. Develop understanding of poultry business economics.

Program Structure

The apprenticeship combines:
– Classroom instruction
– Guided practical farm work
– Daily farm task participation
– Mentorship from experienced poultry professionals
– Weekly assessment and performance reviews

RC – Referential of Competencies

Graduates should be able to:
– Manage poultry housing and environment.
– Perform brooding and feeding operations.
– Apply poultry biosecurity measures.
– Maintain farm records.
– Participate in daily poultry farm management.

RF – Referential of Training

Training Methodology:
– 30% Classroom Theory
– 60% Farm Practical Sessions
– 10% Assessment and Evaluation

Training Duration:
– 3 Months
– 12 Weeks
– 5 Days per Week

RE – Referential of Evaluation

Assessment Structure:
– Attendance & Participation: 20%
– Practical Tasks: 40%
– Farm Performance Review: 20%
– Final Practical Exam: 20%

Certification & Ministry Submission Notes

Learners who successfully complete the Poultry Farm Apprenticeship will receive an ONITA Certificate of Completion. This curriculum follows competency-based training standards aligned with vocational accreditation expectations.
